A Memoir

by Patricia Gesford Lane

Emily is eight years old. The author, Mrs. Lane, her third grade teacher, thinks she will retire at the end of the year. However, her plans are redirected when she discovers that this intelligent child has great difficulty reading. No one has determined her problem.

Mrs. Lane’s compassion and love for Emily plus her knowledge about language learning disabilities takes her on a journey that forever changes the lives of both student and teacher. Together they solve the puzzle.

REVIEWS:

“Finally, a book long overdue. It confronts the need for teachers who work with students with specific learning disabilities to have a personal and caring relationship with their students. I strongly recommend this work to end the “masquerade of professionalism” often touted as the current wave of education. The time to expedite the power of a warm, creative relationship between a teacher and her student with specific learning disabilities is now.”
